If you’re thinking about having a custom home built for you instead of purchasing a pre-existing home, it’s important to understand the custom home build process. When you can understand and anticipate each step, you’ll be able to better prepare for move-in day and check off other items on your to-do list.
Here at David Jordan Homes, we always follow a meticulous custom home build process to ensure that each design is constructed with the best materials and the proper techniques. If you’re not familiar with the custom home build process, here are the typical steps we follow:
- Define the main goals. We’ll require key details about the client’s budget, construction location, and needs for the home. For example, we’ll need to know how many bedrooms the client needs, if there are any special features we need to install, and what the floorplan will look like.
- Develop a blueprint. After we meet with the client and fully understand their needs, we’ll create a detailed blueprint for their custom home, making sure that each area complies with local building codes.
- Obtain permits. Before we can begin the custom home build process, we’ll have to get the proper permissions and permits. During this phase, the homebuyer will also secure the finances for their project, such as a construction loan or special mortgage loan.
- Choose materials. This is when the client’s home starts to come to life. In this phase, we’ll select the different materials for the floors, countertops, cabinets, and other areas of the house.
- Begin construction. In this phase, our team will create a foundation and start laying out the new home’s framework. As construction progresses, we’ll regularly check in with the client to let them know how everything is going.
- Decorate the interior. An interior designer will add final touches to make the house feel like home.
